• Gamers return to the tropical Alola Region to catch, train, and battle Pokémon, and take down criminals from Team Skull in Pokémon Ultra Moon.
• Gamers battle and capture wild Pokémon for later use in turn-based battles against other trainers, with the Pokémon leveling up, learning new techniques, and sometimes evolving into new forms.
• There are dozens of creatures to acquire through battles and trades with owners of the co-release Pokémon Ultra Sun, and new Z-Moves have been added to let trainers unleash one powerful move per battle, though some Z-Moves are exclusive to certain Pokémon.
• The Alola Region is split into four natural islands and one artificial island, with each island home to a leader called a kahuna and guardian Pokémon called tapu. Strange, dark clouds have begun to spread over Alola, and as players make their way through the region they will come across new buildings and environments that were not in the original Pokémon Moon, and gradually unravel the mystery of the Legendary Pokémon Necrozma. There is no established Pokémon League on Alola, but one is being formed, and hidden on one of the islands is the Battle Tree, where trainers can battle one another.
